Based on a true story, Denial dramatises acclaimed writer and historian Deborah E. Lipstadt‘s (Rachel Weisz) battle for historical truth to prove the Holocaust actually occurred when David Irving (Timothy Spall), a renowned denier, sues her for libel. Written for the screen by David Hare (The Hours) it is adapted from Deborah E. Lipstadt’s own autobiography History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier and I reckon it’ll be a gripping, if not frustrating watch. Timothy Spall by the way continues to turn in excellent love to hate him roles (Damn you Wormtail!) like this consistently so I’m sure he’ll portray Irving with pure malice. Kristen Stewart has the chance to show off her considerable acting chops in this mysterious dramatic thriller; as a woman seeking to make contact with her deceased twin brother. With this modern ghost story set against the backdrop of Paris, it’s sure to be an interesting and refreshing addition to the filmography Stewart has contributed to after starring in that film franchise. Ooh I’m so looking forward to seeing Their Finest, as it comes into Autmun and Winter, I love me some British film and TV and this romantic dramedy starring the brit rom-com master Bill Nighy, Gemma Arterton and ‘Nu-Hugh Grant’ Sam Claflin, should be just the thing to warm me up. I love that this film is helmed by female director Lone Scherfig (An Education, One Day) and features the story scriptwriter Catrin and her work during WWII producing propaganda films. Based on the 2009 novel by Lissa Evans originally titled Their Finest Hour and a Half; it also shares similar WWII timeline points and content to Christopher Nolan‘s next film release, Dunkirk. Check out showtimes near you here

THE BOSS BABY

Aww you know what I wasn’t expecting much and I went along to Dreamworks The Boss Baby because I love animation; I’ve always had an interest in it, I was a big Saturday Morning cartoon fan (I’m still pissed that we don’t have a lot of the gadgets I was promised from The Jetsons re-runs btw) and my Husband studied Animation for four years…so I’ve got a bit of a vested interest. I was pleasantly surprised! It’s great as it is as a good family romp; but I was also delighted in some of the risque adult humour nestled in there and I enjoyed all those sibling moments of frustration that I hope you’ve had the pleasure of having in your life too. It’s pah-acked with vocal acting talent: Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy Kimmel, Tobey Maguire, Steve Buscemi (who I totally forgot was in it, he fooled me so hard in his role…) and of course Alec Baldwin as The Boss Baby. A good time and a good all rounder to see with whoever you might be going out to the movies with over Easter and the School Holidays. Check out showtimes near you here

THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS

I’m a late bloomer to the Fast and the Furious franchise, I jumped on board with F7 as it was a super big deal as most known of course with the loss of Paul Walker. Plus I was interested as one of my horror director faves, James Wan, was called in to helm that volume of the story. This time around another director I think is pretty cool, F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) is *cough* behind the wheel on this one and I liked what he did with it. Charlize is evil, Scott Eastwood is called on-board as the new white-boy man candy and it’s absurd, ostentatious and a lot of fun. Like, a lot of fun. I’ll pick up anything Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is putting down and I enjoy the very serious works of Jason Statham as often as possible. As you’d expect the character roles for women remain, err, limited and there’s plenty of full screen moments of jiggling ta-ta’s and supple cheeks deliciously but barely grazed by cloth coverings; but chances are, if this is something that adversely bothers you, then you’re not going to sign up to see this! It was an explosion, vrrom vrrom ka-boom action movie and I loved it and laugh-choked on my popcorn a good couple of times too. Potentially Spoilery notes – I loved the prison fight sequence and also Deckard’s moment to shine in a super cool airplane mile-high battle scene.  Check out showtimes near you here
