  • Another Iso Time Flattie Family Dinner and this time I was up for cooking duty, so I went all out and made a huge Mexi Feast. It’d been ages since I’d cooked for a crowd and I really enjoyed absolutely every aspect of it. I’m a big fan of prep and chopping, getting everything ready to cook; I’m also a “clean as you go” person while I’m cooking, after learning it while working at Maccas as a kid so I love doing that bit too. I made @oldelpaso Chicken Enchiladas, @revivecafes Smoked Spanish Rice, a killer Guacamole, @mexicanonz Corn Chips and @yourtaylorfarms Southwest Buffalo Salad. Confession time: I’ve started eating some chicken here and there during iso time so it was fun to make these enchiladas again now that I was happy to eat chicken, even though I know I could totally do these in a vegetarian version too. Yes. Nailed it.   • Iso Time has been about building new traditions and celebrating small things. Gratitude in simple moments. Part of this has been having a regular “family meal” with The Flatties and it’s been super fun, great for getting to know each other and most of all, delicious!Here’s the veggie FEAST that Chef Flattie created a couple of weeks back, there was incredible Roast Pork that went along with this that everyone else very much enjoyed...with the loudest crackling I’ve ever heard! I enjoyed Roast Carrots, Kumara, Potato, Pumpkin, Onions and Yams. Plus a delicious buttery, garlicky side of Silverbeet and also lashings of fresh Broccoli and Green Beans, drenched in a light, yummy gravy. This was the ultimate veggie dream roast, then we got into some jigsaw puzzle after.   • I finally got to see MIDSOMMAR @midsommarmovie on @neon_nz last night after being on the Ari Aster hype train since I lost my mind in his debut, Hereditary. I loved everything about Midsommar, this is my kind of horror movie. Innovative yet ancient, the scares in this are primal and make you squirm at a baser level. Beyond that, Midsommar is deeply layered with meaning and semiotic signifiers. Make no mistake though, this film is brutal and confronting, be ready to challenge yourself by watching this if you’re a fan of lighter horror. Midsommar has moments of brutal gore, frightening cult aspects and strange uncomfortable interactions. It’s embedded in a clever, probably very familiar feeling to some, break up movie frame work. Florence Pugh @florencepugh is incredible in her role as Dani, giving us superb depth and a real, flawed character that holds you from start to finish.   • I just watched EXTRACTION on @netflixanz and wanted to share my most loved shot from this incredible action flick. This over the shoulder point of view shot through the front door is a famous trope shot from Westerns, often at the beginning of classic Westerns to signify the burden or weight of the journey ahead for the hero; and this shot was similarly used in EXTRACTION. In fact half way through, I thought fondly of the classic SHANE and some of the parallels between the character @chrishemsworth played - Tyler Rake and that of the iconic Western hero.   • With Dre passing away, it did also bring up the feelings of loss for our Sweetpea Blue Staffy - Nahlies. After all it’s only been since Dec 2018 that she passed and with losing them both, it did become acutely aware to both Leon and myself that we are no longer “Pet Parents” and that felt VERY sad. We know, that one day, we’ll have pets again when the timing and our living situation is right, but for now we’ll cherish our memories of these beautiful babies and our photos of them.
