Goals, resolutions – call them what you will, these are the things that I’ll be making a big effort to work on during 2018. I’ve been reading some cool advice out there from top women like Avidgirlboss or Sunniva C Holt; and I’ve been absorbing their words and thinking about what I want for 2018. So here’s my top goals or habits I wanna form in this year ahead.
CONSISTENCY
That’s a great point right there actually, consistency. When it comes to goals, consistency is my word of the year for 2018. I’m going to use this little word like a shield and carry it with me everywhere I go. I think if I work on being consistent in what I do in the specific areas of my life (work, family, blog, fitness, leisure, vacays) then I’ll achieve more; cause to me consistency means manageable and achievable, not making some massive big claims based on ludicrous goals that won’t happen.
EATING THE FROG
This year, I’m going to continue to eat the frog. I love this saying cause it’s absurd and makes me laugh; and while I understand eating frog is probably totally someone else’s jazz, that’s not my buzz at. all. So, “Eating the Frog” to me means, doing the thing you don’t want to do the most, first. I’ve started practicing it in the last weeks of 2017 and I’ve found it works a treat. Email you don’t wanna send? Task you don’t wanna do? Need to clean out the car? Eat that Frog mate.
GETTING BLOGGY WITH IT
So this year in 2018, I want One Take Kate to become a bit more bloggy, I’ve been thinking about it a long time and I have content ideas all the time in my head, but I’ve not had the CONSISTENCY to EAT THE FROG and just get stuff posted without worrying about it being perfect. So no more of that. No instead, I’m going to be sharing some more of me, with you. So I need you to tell me what it is you wanna know about what I do: for One Take Kate, for work – whatever, tell me more of what you wanna see on One Take Kate and I’ll bring it to you this year.
SEYMOUR NZ AND THE WORLD
The age old I wanna do more travelling New Year’s resolution, yeah, yeah I know; but it’s one that I always kinda carry with me and I’ve come to realize that in order to SEE the parts of NZ or the world that I want to, then I’ll need to actually plan it, save for it and book it. Wishing it into being isn’t going to make it happen. In 2018 I’d like to see Queenstown, Tāne Mahuta, Hobbiton, Waitomo Caves, Stay at The Chateau, Weta Workshop + Te Papa in Wellington, somewhere up north but just not sure where yet (maybe you can tell me in the comments below) and Rotorua (annual trip there is a must. Non negotiable). Around the rest of the globe, I think it’d be cool if I managed to nab a deal to revisit Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane / Gold Coast in 2018 so I can see family in Oz. I’d also LOVE to start thinking about when I could meet some of my new team members as part of my work with Digivizer / Microsoft; as I now have people I could visit in Singapore, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Boston, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Sydney and Melbourne. Cooool.
FOLD YOUR WASHING KATE
OK this is part of me sharing more about me with you and also about consistency and eating the frog. I’m terrible at folding and putting away my clothes. I know, newsflash this is like 90% of people around the world regardless of their lifestyle but…this is something that I wanna crush in 2018. It comes off the line or out of the dryer, it gets folded, it goes away. I’ve just typed it out and it sounds pretty simple so I’m going to try and use this consistency thing to keep that up and make it a habit in 2018.
SAVE IT, SAVE IT GOOD – SAVE IT REAL GOOD!
This year more than ever before I’m going to be working hard towards the goal of Leon and I getting into our own home. It’s going to take lots of effort, communication, learning adult stuff about property things and also convincing someone at a bank that we’re super cool and they should give us some money. I’ll be working hard to make this happen; and I really hope this is a milestone I can share with you all later in the year, there’s some cool opportunities on the horizon regarding this but I don’t wanna say anything more just yet. Stay tuned.
SCHEDULE QUALITY TIME
Sounds really Lesley Knope I know, I’m going to schedule quality time in 2018…sounds spontaneous and fun! But it will be. In 2017 I was pleased with how I’ve worked my time management skills to achieve so much more than I ever have before; I mean 64 movies seen in cinema, 27 live music gigs seen around Auckland, 5 or 6 live entertainment or theatre shows, plus family occasions, plus work – I achieved a lot of cool things! In 2018 I wanna keep that up and: combine that with the consistency of working on big things in small meaningful ways; add in eating the frog so that I can get through the stuff I don’t wanna do, so I can relish in the things I DO wanna do; and *gaaasp deep breath* I wanna schedule in more blocks of time to: do nothing, read, nap or spend time with a family member or friend – either with a specific plan, or no plans at all for our hang out.
So there’s me, those are the things I’m going to be putting my focus and intention towards in 2018 – what are the things you’d like to work on this year? Tell me in the comments below and we can check up on how each other is going as the year progresses.
