Your update on ALITA:BATTLE ANGEL news featuring the Worldwide LIVE Q&A with producer James Cameron, director Robert Rodriguez, producer Jon Landau and star Rosa Salazar.
This morning 20th Century Fox hosted a worldwide live Q&A with Alita: Battle Angel producer James Cameron, director Robert Rodriguez, producer Jon Landau, star Rosa Salazar for fans across the movie’s official social and YouTube channels. During this live Q&A at Lightstorm Entertainment, the studio that brought you Titanic and Avatar, the film’s new trailer was released. This trailer debut and live chat were shared across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube in 30+ markets worldwide, localized in multiple languages in real time: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish – making this a truly international movie fan event!
Arriving in NZ Cinemas on Boxing Day 2018, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL based on Yukito Kishiro’s original Manga series; will have cult director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) at the helm with James Cameron & Jon Landau (Avatar, Titanic) giving their overall gloss on everything as producers. NZ’s very own Weta Digital will create the visual world of ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, to the beats written by James Cameron, which to me is pretty huge already but Cameron will be joined by Laeta Kalogridis who wrote one of my fave spooky narratives, Shutter Island – so I’m thinking we’re going to get moving and dark and I’m all aboard for that! Starring Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Death Cure), Christoph Waltz (Spectre), Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) and Hidden Figures and Moonlight’s Mahershala Ali (Seriously…can we just put Mahershala in everything, like right now?).
What’s the story, though?: ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL is an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
How was that trailer! Seriously if you didn’t just watch it, scroll back up and hit play cause I’m getting some serious scifi action vibes and I can just imagine myself with popcorn and chop-top in hand and really enjoying this futuristic thrill ride with a bit of a Pinocchio vibe; and if you know anything about One Take Kate it’s probably that I’m s BIG SUCKER for a great origin story. ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL has a beloved pre-existing fan base and there’s already some resistance in movie critic circles squabbling about everything from Alita’s “Weird” big eyes, to ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL not understanding the nuances of anime, to a casting whitewash which is always a delicate place for a release to be. For me, I’m excited to see a beloved story told in a new way. How do you feel about it?
