Frank Castle is back and honestly? It feels right seeing Jon Bernthal wearing the skull again. Marvel Television’s Special Presentation The Punisher: One Last Kill is now streaming exclusively on Disney+, with a brutal new poster and hype spot released to celebrate the launch. After years of fans demanding Bernthal’s return as Frank Castle, Marvel has finally handed him the spotlight again in what looks to be a gritty, emotional and deeply violent return to one of Marvel’s most beloved antiheroes. And yes… we are absolutely sat for this.

Jon Bernthal Returns As Frank Castle
The Punisher: One Last Kill sees Jon Bernthal reprise his role as Frank Castle in an all-new Marvel Television Special Presentation. This time around, Frank is searching for meaning beyond revenge when an unexpected force drags him back into the fight. Bernthal not only stars in the project, but also co-wrote the special alongside director Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard, We Own This City), which instantly gives this whole thing a more personal and character-driven edge. There’s a weight to Bernthal’s version of Frank Castle that has always made him stand apart from other Marvel characters. He’s angry, traumatised, terrifying but also deeply human. Fans connected with that immediately during his original Daredevil and Netflix-era appearances, and it genuinely feels like Marvel understands what audiences want from this character now.
Marvel Hosted Special Fan Screenings
To celebrate the release, Marvel and Disney hosted a special fan screening in New York at AMC Lincoln Square Cinemas, attended by Jon Bernthal and Reinaldo Marcus Green. Disney and Marvel Television also held advance screenings for military service members at Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune last week. A fitting audience for a character so heavily shaped by military identity and trauma. It’s a thoughtful touch from Marvel, and one that feels authentic to the DNA of The Punisher.
A Darker, More Grounded Marvel Story
One of the most exciting things about One Last Kill is how grounded it appears to be. While the MCU often leans cosmic or multiversal these days, Frank Castle exists in a much dirtier, street-level corner of Marvel storytelling. The trailers and promotional material suggest this special doubles down on that tone. Expect bruises. Blood. Moral grey areas. Probably a very uncomfortable body count. Good, that’s where The Punisher works best.

Editor’s Note
Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle has always felt like one of the most emotionally raw performances Marvel accidentally stumbled into during the Netflix era. There’s this simmering exhaustion and rage underneath everything he does that makes him feel less like a superhero and more like a genuine tragedy. Also and this is important, Bernthal simply looks like he’s been through hell and matters for Frank Castle. Marvel’s street-level storytelling has been at its best when it stops trying to be quippy and lets characters sit in the messiness of grief, trauma and violence. If One Last Kill leans into that energy fully? This could genuinely be one of the strongest Marvel projects in years. After the recent run of MCU content? That skull logo appearing again hits like a war drum.
